Lothian Isobel Rosé 2022

Description
Lothian Vineyards is situated in the cool-climate Elgin Valley, where elevated vineyards, ocean influence and slow ripening conditions produce wines with natural freshness and precision. The estate lies alongside the Palmiet River and focuses on site-driven wines that express Elgin’s distinctive combination of crisp acidity, mineral tension and restrained fruit character.
The Lothian Isobel Rosé 2022 is made entirely from Mourvèdre, a variety more commonly associated with Bandol in southern France. The grapes were hand-harvested from a single block planted on Table Mountain sandstone soils and whole-bunch pressed to preserve delicacy and freshness. Extended lees contact added texture and subtle complexity while maintaining the wine’s dry, focused style. The result is a rosé that leans more toward savoury elegance than overt sweetness, offering a thoughtful and food-friendly interpretation of Elgin rosé.
Colour:
Very pale onion-skin pink with brilliant clarity and delicate copper highlights.
Nose:
White pepper, kumquat and wild raspberry aromas lead the nose, followed by hints of grilled peach, citrus peel, smoke and freshly cut herbs. There is a gentle savoury edge beneath the fruit.
Palate:
Dry and finely textured, with fresh acidity carrying flavours of mandarin, red berries and subtle stone fruit across the palate. The wine has a restrained ripeness and a mineral character that keeps it focused and refreshing rather than overtly fruity.
Finish:
Persistent and clean, with lingering citrus, savoury spice and delicate red fruit notes.
