Lomond Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Sauvignon Blanc
Description
Lomond Estate is situated near Gansbaai in the Cape Agulhas region, one of South Africa’s most southerly and genuinely cool wine-growing areas. Vineyards lie close to the Atlantic Ocean, where persistent sea breezes and low average temperatures slow ripening and preserve natural acidity. This maritime influence, combined with diverse soils including sandstone, shale and gravel, gives Lomond’s wines their trademark clarity and restraint.
The estate follows a thoughtful, site-driven approach, matching individual grape varieties to specific soil types. Sauvignon Blanc is grown where cooler conditions favour aromatic lift and freshness rather than overt ripeness. Winemaking is deliberately uncomplicated, allowing the vineyard expression to lead, resulting in wines that feel confident, balanced and true to place.
Colour:
Pale straw with a faint green tint, bright and youthful in the glass.
Nose:
Fresh citrus aromas of lime and grapefruit lead, followed by green apple, gooseberry and a subtle herbal edge reminiscent of fennel and fresh-cut grass.
Palate:
Light to medium-bodied with crisp, focused acidity. Zesty citrus and green fruit flavours carry through, supported by a clean, linear structure and a gently saline note that reflects its coastal origin.
Finish:
Dry and refreshing, with lingering citrus peel and a light mineral snap on the close.
