Kanonkop is one of South Africa’s most respected wine estates, recognised for its landmark red wines and stewardship of traditional varieties like Pinotage and Bordeaux blends. The Kadette range is designed as an approachable expression of the estate’s style, combining classic South African fruit with thoughtful cellar craft. The 2023 Cape Blend brings together vines of varying ages planted on decomposed granite and Hutton soils, benefitting from Stellenbosch’s cool maritime influence and long, gentle ripening season. Fermented in open concrete tanks and matured for around 12 months in mainly older French oak, this blend balances ripe fruit with fresh acidity and integrated tannin structure.
Colour: Bright deep ruby red in the glass, clear and inviting.
Nose: Fragrant aromas of cassis and dark cherries, layered with raspberry and plum, warmed by gentle cinnamon, allspice and a hint of dark chocolate.
Palate: Medium to full bodied with juicy summer berry flavours at the core. The fruit is supported by silky yet firm tannins and lively acidity, giving the wine energy and lift. Subtle savoury and spice notes add nuance without distracting from the vibrant fruit profile.
Finish: Fresh and persistent, with lingering black and red fruit and a touch of spice that rounds out the close.
