Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
Kanonkop is one of South Africa’s most revered red wine producers, rooted on the lower slopes of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch. With dry-land vineyards planted on decomposed granite, Hutton and Clovelly soils, and a cool maritime influence that moderates ripening, Kanonkop has a long history of crafting powerful, structured reds that speak authentically of site and varietal. The Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is made with meticulous vineyard management and cellaring, including extended open fermentation and about 24 months’ maturation in French oak barrels, allowing depth and complexity to develop without overshadowing fruit expression.
Colour: Deep garnet red with a pronounced richness in the glass, showing both youth and intensity.
Nose: Complex aromas of blackcurrant and dark cherry are layered with cedar wood, cigar box, bay leaf and pencil shavings, with hints of paprika and tobacco adding savoury detail.
Palate: Medium-to-full bodied with concentrated black fruit at the core. Flavours of cassis, plum and black cherry are supported by baking spices, walnut and creamy vanilla from oak influence. Balanced acidity and silky, fine-grained tannins give structure and poise while keeping the wine focused.
Finish: Long and satisfying with lingering dark fruit, subtle oak spice and a clean, poised close that invites another sip.

Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
- Food Pairing : Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 pairs beautifully with richly flavoured, savoury dishes. Grilled or roasted beef - such as ribeye or sirloin with cracked pepper - brings out the wine’s depth and structured tannins. Slow-braised lamb shanks or venison also echo its dark fruit and spice layers, while mature hard cheeses or herb-roasted pork loin provide a satisfying contrast to its fruit and oak interplay. Balanced acidity and refined structure mean it can stand up to hearty sauces without overpowering more delicate flavours.
