Glenelly Estate sits on the southern slopes of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch, founded by May de Lencquesaing, a revered figure in Bordeaux winemaking who brought her vision to South Africa in the early 2000s. Lady May is the estate’s flagship Bordeaux-inspired blend, reflecting both Old World structure and New World fruit intensity. For the 2020 vintage, rigorous hand-harvesting and careful integration of oak matured components - including extended élevage in French oak barrels - have produced a wine of poise and depth. This bottling, released with a special label commemorating May de Lencquesaing’s 100th birthday, speaks to both the estate’s pedigree and its ability to harness Stellenbosch’s varied soils and warm climate for refined, age worthy Cabernet-based blends.
Colour: Deep ruby with youthful violet edges, promising both intensity and freshness.
Nose: A rich, inviting bouquet of blackcurrant, damson and dark plum is woven with cedar, mocha and subtle fynbos aromatics, alongside hints of mint and pencil shavings from careful oak integration.
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied with bright acidity and finely packed, polished tannins. The core of dark berries and cassis carries through beautifully, underscored by cedar, spice and savoury undertones for depth and complexity.
Finish: A refined, enduring finish where fruit purity and savoury spice linger, promising continued development with age.
