DeMorgenzon DMZ Chenin Blanc 2024
Chenin Blanc
Description
Crafted on the renowned De Morgenzon Estate in Stellenbosch, the DMZ Chenin Blanc 2024 reflects the winery’s philosophy that a biodiverse, ecologically balanced environment produces exceptional grapes. Proprietors Wendy and Hylton Appelbaum have transformed De Morgenzon into a 91-hectare garden estate, where 55 hectares of vineyards are nurtured among flourishing wildflowers and natural vegetation. This elegant South African Chenin Blanc showcases refined aromas of white blossom, citrus zest, and hints of tropical fruit. The palate is bright and refreshing, offering layers of succulent fruit, balanced acidity, and a silky texture that leads to a long, graceful finish. Perfectly expressing the purity and vibrancy of Stellenbosch terroir, this white wine is a true example of sustainability and fine winemaking in the Cape Winelands.
Colour:
Pale lemon to light straw with a bright, youthful hue and good clarity.
Nose:
Ripe stone fruit leads – think white peach and apricot – followed by pear and yellow apple. There are citrus notes of lemon zest and grapefruit, with subtle layers of honeysuckle, chamomile and a hint of wet stone. A gentle, creamy undertone may show from lees contact rather than obvious oak.
Palate:
Medium-bodied with a lively yet not sharp acidity. The palate mirrors the nose: juicy pear, peach and ripe apple, joined by tangy citrus. A touch of lees richness gives a rounded, slightly waxy texture, balanced by a clean, dry finish. Any oak influence is discreet, contributing weight and a faint nuttiness rather than overt vanilla. The overall impression is dry, fresh and neatly balanced – serious enough for the table, easy enough for a weekday glass.
Finish:
Medium length, with lingering citrus, ripe stone fruit and a light, savoury-mineral edge that keeps it moreish rather than sweet.
