Crafted by the Nel family in Calitzdorp, Boplaas 6 Year Single Grain Whisky Tawny Port Cask Finish reflects the distillery’s deep ties to South Africa’s wine and spirits heritage. Boplaas is better known for fortified wines, but its whisky range has rapidly gained respect for combining traditional distillation with innovative cask maturation. In this expression, the spirit is distilled from South African grain and matured for six years - initially in seasoned bourbon casks, then finished in barrels that previously held Boplaas’s own Cape Tawny Port. This finishing step integrates the warm, fruity complexity of port casks with the smoothness of a well-aged grain spirit, resulting in a whisky that feels both familiar and distinctly South African.

Nose:
Inviting aromas of fruitcake, dried figs and raisins meet warm winter spices - cloves and cardamom - alongside cocoa and gentle oak sweetness.
Palate:
Medium-bodied and smooth, the Tawny Port cask influence brings yellow-fruit sweetness and gentle oak-derived spice. Notes of rich apricot, roasted nuts and a touch of vanilla sit alongside soft grain character.
Finish:
Balanced and lingering, with toffee warmth, layered oak spice and a subtle sweetness that tapers to a satisfying close.
