Avante Brandy is a South African brand created by a collective of 15 international rugby legends, led by former Springbok captain John Smit. The project was founded on the idea of combining world-class sporting excellence with the craftsmanship of traditional Cape potstill brandy.
The Avante XV Founders 15 Year Potstill Brandy represents the flagship of the range. It is produced from 100% potstill brandy, double-distilled and matured for fifteen years in small oak barrels. The blend was selected from two casks originally filled in 2009, allowing extended ageing to develop depth, complexity and structure.
Long maturation in oak contributes layered flavours of dried fruit, caramelised citrus and gentle spice while maintaining the elegance associated with premium Cape potstill brandy. The result is a spirit designed primarily for sipping neat, where its aromatics and texture can be fully appreciated.
Colour:
Deep amber with warm copper tones, showing the richness gained from extended oak maturation.
Nose:
Inviting aromas of dried apricot, peach and citrus peel lead the bouquet, followed by notes of honey, toasted oak, vanilla and a hint of roasted nuts.
Palate:
Full-bodied and smooth, with flavours of ripe stone fruit, caramel, and gentle spice supported by the round texture that comes from long ageing in oak.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering notes of toasted almonds, soft vanilla and subtle oak spice.

- Food Pairing : This style of mature potstill brandy is best enjoyed neat in a brandy balloon or tumbler, where gentle warming in the glass releases its layered aromas. A single large ice cube can soften the spirit slightly while maintaining structure. It also pairs well with dark chocolate, roasted nuts, or rich desserts, which echo the brandy’s caramel, nut and spice notes.
- Drink before: Once opened, the brandy should be consumed within 1-2 years for the best experience. As with most premium spirits, it will begin to oxidize and lose its nuanced flavours over time, though it will not "spoil" in the traditional sense.
