Apogée Chardonnay 2021 is produced by La Vierge, a Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge estate overlooking the Atlantic coastline near Hermanus. This elevated cool-climate region has become one of South Africa’s leading Chardonnay sites, where maritime winds and slower ripening conditions help preserve freshness, natural acidity and detail in the fruit.
La Vierge’s vineyards are planted on shale and clay-rich soils that contribute both texture and mineral character to the wines. The estate follows a site-driven approach in the cellar, aiming to express the character of the vintage and vineyard rather than relying on excessive oak or extraction. For the Apogée Chardonnay 2021, fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels add subtle layers of almond, creaminess and spice while retaining the focused citrus profile that defines the wine.

Bright pale gold with a clean lemon edge and a polished clarity in the glass.
Nose:
Citrus blossom, yellow apple and white peach lead on the nose, followed by notes of yellow flowers, almond, oatmeal and subtle vanilla spice from oak ageing.
Palate:
Textured and layered, the palate combines citrus and stone fruit flavours with a creamy mid-palate and mineral backbone. The acidity remains fresh and focused, giving lift and structure to the richer almond and lees-driven elements.
Finish:
Long and mineral, with lingering citrus peel, toasted nuts and a gentle savoury note on the finish.
