Just released | Get the New 2018 Absa Top 10 Pinotage Selection
Dear Reader

Exclusive partners with the Pinotage Association since 1998

A focus on quality wine is my passion and my reason for starting the club back in 1986. The Pinotage Association follows the same tasting methodology as the Wine-of-the-Month Club. All Pinotages are tasted blind. No judge sees a label. This means they focus on one thing, and one thing only - what’s in the bottle.

Did you know that Pinotage is a uniquely South African grape that was created in 1925. It's a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut and is South Africa's signature red wine varietal.

Here are the 2018 Absa Top 10 Pinotages in alphabetical order:

Allee Bleue Black Series Old Vine Pinotage 2016:
All the berries are here, strawberry, raspberry, blackberries and plums. Wrapped in a layer of fine dark chocolate and offset with a touch of liquorice.
Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage 2015:
A big structured Pinotage with intense dark fruit flavours. A deep middle leads to a smooth finish with pleasant chocolate/cedar aromas from the French oak.
Diemersdal Reserve Pinotage 2017:
Full bodied on the palate with medium tannins and moderate acidity. It offers rich notes of blackberries, blackcurrant, strawberries and cherries. Very long persistent finish.
Fairview Primo Pinotage 2016:
Deep dark red colour in the glass. Complex aromas of blueberries, cinnamon and dark chocolate. A brooding palate that brims with plums, savory notes and dark berry flavors. Elegant tannins leading to a fresh finish that shows great ageing potential.
Flagstone Writer's Block Pinotage 2016:
Flavours of very ripe strawberry, cherry and darker blackberry are wrapped up in soft, comforting oak hints and a caress of vanilla and dark chocolate. Really long and luscious.
Kaapzicht Steytler Pinotage 2015:
The bright cored palate of the 2015 shows more elegance and freshness, but retains the characteristic fine grained, polished tannin structure that is accessible and mouth-watering now, but will also develop further complexity with bottle age.
Kanonkop Pinotage 2013:
Big powerful lush body, velvety smooth with great smoked oak. Great balance and potential for the future.
Lyngrove Platinum Pinotage 2016:
Aromas of fresh berry compote with notes of cinnamon, coconut milk and vanilla. Full rounded palate with cherry and spice, supported by sweet oak and spicy flavours that linger through to the velvet finish.
Môreson The Widow Maker Pinotage 2015:
A rich and deliciously heavy red wine. Characterised by dried prunes, wild cherries, as well as a blend of clove and cinnamon flavours it is tasty enough to be a meal on its own.
Rijk's Reserve Pinotage 2014:
Deep red colour, intense red fruit aromas of cherry, strawberry and cranberry with underlying coconut and cinnamon spice on the nose. These exquisite aromas carry through onto a rich, creamy lingering palate. Silky well integrated and elegant tannins shows the perfect harmony and balance.

Kind Regards

Colin Collard
