Zandvliet Pocket Power 2025
Zandvliet Wine Estate lies near Ashton in the Robertson Valley, a region renowned for its limestone-rich soils, warm sunny days and cool evenings that allow grapes to ripen fully while retaining freshness. Established in 1838, Zandvliet has built a long-standing reputation for producing elegant Shiraz and Rhône-inspired wines that express both place and variety with clarity. Pocket Power pays tribute to one of South Africa's most celebrated racehorses, bred on the estate and affectionately known as "The People's Champion". The wine reflects the same spirit, combining Shiraz with traditional Rhône varieties to create a generous yet refined red blend. Fruit is sourced from vineyards rooted in limestone-rich clay and weathered shale soils before careful maturation to preserve purity, texture and balance.
Colour: Deep ruby red with vibrant garnet highlights.
Nose: Lifted aromas of ripe cherries and dark berries lead the way, followed by delicate violet perfume, cracked black pepper, nutmeg and a subtle savoury spice.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied with juicy black and red fruit layered over supple tannins. The Shiraz provides richness and spice, while Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre contribute freshness, savoury complexity and an elegant, rounded texture.
Finish: Long and smooth, finishing with lingering dark fruit, gentle spice and a touch of pepper that invites another sip.
- Food Pairing : Zandvliet Pocket Power 2025 is a versatile Rhône-style blend that pairs beautifully with slow-roasted lamb, beef potjie, grilled boerewors, flame-grilled steak or rich mushroom dishes. The wine's ripe fruit softens savoury flavours, while its gentle tannin structure and fresh acidity keep richer meals feeling balanced. It also complements mature cheddar, Gouda or other firm, aged cheeses, making it equally enjoyable around the braai or at the dinner table.
