Lomond lies close to the southern tip of Africa, in the cool, wind-influenced hills above Gansbaai in the Cape Agulhas region. Here, vineyards are shaped by strong maritime breezes and a long, slow ripening season, ideal for Sauvignon Blanc with high natural acidity and finely etched aromatics. The Sugarbush Sauvignon Blanc is a single-vineyard expression, grown on specific soils that tend to accentuate purity and a lean, mineral profile rather than overt tropical richness. Winemaking is deliberately restrained: careful picking for tension and flavour, cool fermentation in stainless steel and extended time on fine lees to add texture without masking the vineyard character. The result is a Sauvignon Blanc that combines New World clarity of fruit with a distinctly Old World sense of restraint and salinity.
Colour:
Pale straw with a green tinge, very bright and clear, suggesting a young, cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc.
Nose:
Lime, lemon and grapefruit are at the core, supported by green apple and gooseberry. Subtle passion fruit and cape gooseberry notes add a gentle tropical layer, while hints of fresh herbs and wet stone bring a cool, coastal, almost saline character.
Palate:
Light to medium-bodied with crisp, linear acidity that gives a taut, mouth-watering feel. The palate follows with citrus, green apple and gooseberry, joined by hints of kiwi and restrained tropical fruit. Lees contact typically adds a slight creaminess to the mid-palate, so the wine feels textured rather than overly sharp. Overall, it is dry, focused and refreshing, with a clear sense of cool-climate precision.
Finish:
Medium to long, with lingering lime, grapefruit pith and a distinct, salty-mineral snap that feels very Cape Agulhas.
