Le Bonheur Blanc Fume Reserve 2022
Sauvignon Blanc
Description
Situated on the slopes of Stellenbosch between Simonsberg and Klapmuts Hill, Le Bonheur Wine Estate has a winemaking history dating back to the late 1700s. The estate is particularly well regarded for its Sauvignon Blanc vineyards, including one of the oldest registered Sauvignon Blanc blocks in Stellenbosch, planted in 1977. The combination of elevated vineyard sites, cooling False Bay influences and decomposed granite soils contributes freshness and structure to the wines.
The Le Bonheur Blanc Fumé Reserve 2022 takes a more textured, layered approach to Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was matured for 12 months in lightly toasted French oak barrels, adding complexity and subtle richness while still allowing the varietal freshness to remain central. Production is intentionally limited, with only small quantities released each vintage.
Colour:
Pale straw gold with a bright green edge.
Nose:
Expressive aromas of gooseberry, green apple and citrus blossom lead the nose, followed by softer layers of white peach, subtle vanilla, toasted oak and gentle mineral notes.
Palate:
Medium-bodied with a textured, rounded palate balanced by lively acidity. Flavours of lime, crisp apple and tropical citrus sit alongside delicate oak spice and a creamy lees character. The wine carries more depth and savoury complexity than a typical fresh Sauvignon Blanc while retaining clarity and freshness.
Finish:
Long and focused with lingering citrus peel, subtle oak spice and a clean mineral finish.

- Food Pairing : The Le Bonheur Blanc Fumé Reserve 2022 pairs particularly well with richer seafood dishes and lightly spiced cuisine thanks to its combination of freshness and texture. Try it with grilled yellowtail, seared tuna, creamy prawn pasta or roast chicken with herbs and lemon. The subtle oak influence also makes it a natural partner for Thai-inspired dishes with gentle spice, while a blue cheese and fig pairing brings out the wine’s savoury and citrus-driven complexity beautifully.
