La Motte La Famille Sauvignon Blanc 2026
La Motte Wine Estate, situated in the Franschhoek Valley, is one of South Africa's most respected historic wine estates, with a winemaking heritage dating back to the 18th century. While the estate is rooted in Franschhoek, the La Famille Sauvignon Blanc draws on carefully selected vineyards across the Cape Winelands, including Stellenbosch, the Cape South Coast and Darling. This combination of cool maritime influences and diverse soils allows each region to contribute its own character to the final blend. The philosophy behind La Motte is to express freshness, elegance and authenticity. The grapes are harvested early to preserve natural acidity before being fermented in separate batches using selected yeasts. Time spent on the lees adds texture and complexity, while a small addition of Sémillon broadens the palate without overshadowing the vibrant Sauvignon Blanc fruit. The result is a wine that reflects both modern precision and classic Cape winemaking.
Colour: Very pale straw with a delicate green tint, bright and youthful in the glass.
Nose: Expressive aromas of passion fruit, lime and gooseberry lead the way, followed by crisp green apple, hints of lemongrass, wild herbs and delicate citrus blossom.
Palate: Fresh and vibrant with flavours of ripe lime, passion fruit and subtle fig. A fine mineral edge and gentle lees texture add depth while lively acidity keeps the wine focused and refreshing.
Finish: Clean and persistent with lingering citrus, mineral notes and a subtle oyster shell salinity that leaves a crisp, savoury impression.
- Food Pairing : The bright acidity and refined texture of La Motte La Famille Sauvignon Blanc 2026 make it an easy partner for fresh seafood such as grilled hake, prawns or West Coast mussels. It also works beautifully with creamy goat's cheese salads, sushi, herb-roasted chicken and lightly spiced Thai or Cape Malay dishes, where the wine's citrus freshness complements aromatic flavours while balancing richer textures. Its crisp, mineral finish also makes it an excellent aperitif before a meal.
