Flagstone Free Run Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2022
Sauvignon Blanc
Description
Flagstone Wines is based in Somerset West, sourcing fruit from carefully selected vineyard sites across the Cape where climate and soil best suit each style. For the Free Run Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2022, grapes were sourced from Darling, a region strongly influenced by the cold Atlantic Ocean. This maritime climate, combined with dry land soils and elevated vineyard sites, helps produce Sauvignon Blanc with natural acidity, aromatic lift and focused structure.
Â
Flagstone has built its reputation on creative, site-driven winemaking that balances technical precision with expressive fruit. For this wine, hand-harvested grapes were bunch-sorted, gently destemmed, given short skin contact, then the free-run juice was settled by gravity and fermented cool before six months on lees. The result is a Sauvignon Blanc with both freshness and texture.
Â
Colour:
Clean, brilliant pale straw with a subtle lime-green edge.
Â
Nose:
Layers of asparagus, green fig, citrus and passion fruit lead the aromatics, followed by hints of guava and a flinty mineral note.
Â
Palate:
Full-bodied for Sauvignon Blanc, with bright acidity carrying flavours of grapefruit, tropical fruit and fresh fig. Lees ageing adds texture and breadth, while the cool-climate fruit profile keeps the palate energetic and focused.
Â
Finish:
Long, crisp and persistent, finishing with citrus zest, flint and lingering freshness.
