Cape of Good Hope Riebeeksrivier Chenin Blanc 2025
Chenin Blanc
Description
Cape of Good Hope is Anthonij Rupert Wyne’s heritage range, sourced from old, characterful vineyards across the Cape. The Riebeeksrivier farm sits on the slopes of the Kasteelberg in the Swartland, a warm, dry area where decomposed granite and shale soils, elevation and steady breezes help Chenin ripen fully while retaining a firm spine of acidity. Many of the Chenin blocks used for this wine are older, naturally low-yielding vines with deep roots, giving smaller berries and more concentrated flavour. In the cellar, the style tends to be restrained rather than flashy: gentle pressing, fermentation in a mix of tank and older oak, and extended lees contact to build texture and savouriness without masking the fruit. The result is a Chenin that feels very much of its place – generous yet focused, and particularly comfortable at the table.
Colour:
Pale to medium lemon with a slight green tint, bright and clear in the glass.
Nose:
Ripe pear, yellow apple and white peach lead the aromas, supported by hints of quince, citrus peel and melon. Subtle notes of honeycomb, dried herbs and a chalky, stony edge add complexity.
Palate:
Medium bodied with a gentle, almost waxy texture from time on lees. Stone fruit and ripe orchard fruit sit at the core, balanced by lively acidity that keeps the wine energetic rather than heavy. Hints of citrus pith, fennel and soft spice from older oak bring savoury interest, giving a layered but still very drinkable style.
Finish:
Medium to long, dry and clean, with lingering peach, pear skin and a faintly saline, mineral note.

Cape of Good Hope Riebeeksrivier Chenin Blanc 2025
- Food Pairing : Cape of Good Hope Riebeeksrivier Chenin Blanc 2025 is a versatile partner for flavourful, medium-weight dishes. Its fresh acidity and textured palate make it a natural fit with roast chicken and lemon, linefish with a light butter or caper sauce, or West Coast mussels in a creamy white wine broth, where the wine cuts through richness while echoing the savoury notes. It also works well with pork belly, glazed gammon or a smoked snoek pâté, as the ripe fruit and gentle spice stand up to sweetness and smokiness. For a meat-free option, try butternut and sage risotto, grilled halloumi with roasted vegetables, or a cheese board with semi-hard and washed-rind cheeses – the Chenin’s combination of fruit, acidity and subtle savouriness ties these flavours together neatly.
