Cape of Good Hope Riebeeksrivier Chenin Blanc 2024
The Cape of Good Hope range, produced by Anthonij Rupert Wyne, is built around South Africa’s most distinctive vineyard sites. The Riebeeksrivier Chenin Blanc comes from old bush vines rooted in shale-rich soils on the slopes of the Kasteelberg in the Swartland - a region known for producing textured, characterful Chenin Blanc.
These dryland vineyards yield small, concentrated berries, contributing both depth and natural balance. In the cellar, the wine is handled with a light touch: partial fermentation and ageing in French oak alongside stainless steel, with time spent on lees to build texture without overwhelming the fruit.
The result is a wine that leans into a more structured, terroir-driven style of Chenin Blanc - less about overt fruit, more about texture, minerality and quiet complexity.
Colour:
Bright straw with a subtle golden hue.
Nose:
Quince and nectarine lead, followed by soft honeyed notes, white florals and a distinct flinty, gravel-like minerality.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with a creamy, lees-driven texture. Ripe stone fruit - peach and nectarine - is balanced by fresh citrus and a fine line of acidity. Subtle oak adds gentle vanilla and spice without dominating.
Finish:
Long and structured, with lingering citrus oil, light spice and a mineral edge that keeps it focused.
- Food Pairing : Cape of Good Hope Riebeeksrivier Chenin Blanc 2024 is well suited to dishes with both richness and subtle complexity. It pairs particularly well with roast chicken, pork belly or creamy mushroom risotto, where the wine’s texture mirrors the dish while its acidity keeps everything in balance. It also shines with Cape Malay fish curry or grilled line fish with lemon butter - the citrus lift and mineral edge cut through richness while complementing delicate spice.
