Meerlust Chardonnay 2024
Chardonnay
Description
Meerlust Estate sits just outside Stellenbosch, close to the cooling influence of False Bay, where maritime breezes temper the warm Cape climate. This proximity plays a defining role in the style of the Meerlust Chardonnay 2024, helping to retain freshness while allowing full flavour development.
With a history dating back to 1693, Meerlust is one of South Africa’s most respected family-run estates. The Myburgh family has built a reputation on consistency and restraint, favouring wines that reflect site rather than trend. Vineyards are rooted in decomposed granite and clay-rich soils, which contribute both structure and subtle mineral character.
Winemaking here leans towards an Old-World sensibility: careful vineyard selection, whole-bunch pressing, and maturation in French oak - used with intention rather than dominance. The result is a Chardonnay that balances texture and precision, shaped as much by place as by technique.
Colour:
Bright straw with a faint golden hue, suggesting both freshness and gentle oak influence.
Nose:
Lemon zest and ripe pear lead, followed by white peach and a hint of citrus blossom. Subtle notes of toasted almond, vanilla pod, and a light flinty edge add complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Palate:
Medium-bodied with a smooth, rounded texture. Stone fruit and citrus flavours carry through, supported by well-integrated oak that brings a touch of creaminess. The acidity is fresh and well-judged, giving the wine shape and lift without sharpness.
Finish:
Clean and moderately long, with lingering notes of citrus, light oak spice, and a gentle mineral edge.

Meerlust Chardonnay 2024
- Food Pairing : The Meerlust Chardonnay 2024 pairs comfortably with dishes that balance richness and freshness. Try it with grilled line fish topped with lemon butter, where the wine’s acidity cuts through the richness while echoing the citrus notes. Roast chicken with herbs or a creamy mushroom risotto also work well, as the wine’s texture complements these dishes without becoming heavy. For something lighter, a prawn and avocado salad offers a fresh contrast that highlights the Chardonnay’s clean finish and subtle complexity.
