Gun Bay is a modern South African wine brand created by Andrew Ing in collaboration with experienced local winemakers, drawing inspiration from Cape Town’s coastal lifestyle and the historic Noon Gun tradition on Signal Hill.
Rather than being tied to a single estate, Gun Bay sources fruit from across the Western Cape - a region shaped by a Mediterranean climate, diverse soils, and the cooling influence of both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. This approach allows the wines to capture ripe fruit character while maintaining freshness and balance.
The winemaking style is deliberately accessible and fruit driven. For the Gun Bay Chardonnay 2024, grapes are harvested early, fermented cool in stainless steel, and kept on fine lees for added texture - all aimed at preserving natural fruit expression without the influence of oak.
Colour:
Pale straw with a bright, youthful sheen.
Nose:
Tropical fruit leads - papaya and pineapple - followed by ripe pear and apricot. A light citrus note adds lift and freshness.
Palate:
Light to medium-bodied, with juicy stone fruit and tropical flavours carried by a soft, rounded texture. The acidity is gentle but present, keeping the wine fresh without sharpness. The unwooded style keeps the focus on clean, uncomplicated fruit.
Finish:
Short to medium, finishing clean with lingering citrus and a subtle stone fruit note.
