De Wetshof Estate Finesse Chardonnay 2025
De Wetshof Estate, situated in the limestone-rich Robertson Valley, is regarded as one of South Africa’s pioneering Chardonnay producers. The estate has been in the De Wet family for generations, with Danie de Wet playing a significant role in establishing Chardonnay as one of the country’s benchmark white varieties. The combination of limestone soils, warm days and cooling evening breezes creates ideal conditions for producing Chardonnay with both richness and freshness.
The Finesse Chardonnay 2025 reflects the estate’s site-specific approach to viticulture and winemaking. Fruit is sourced from vineyards planted in rocky, gravelly soils rich in limestone and clay, helping to develop the wine’s characteristic citrus profile and subtle nutty complexity. Barrel fermentation and maturation in carefully selected French oak, combined with lees contact and regular batonnage, add texture and depth while maintaining elegance and varietal clarity.
Colour:
Bright straw gold with a clear, luminous appearance.
Nose:
Fresh citrus, lemon peel and green apple aromas lead the nose, followed by layers of toasted nuts, oatmeal and subtle vanilla spice from oak maturation.
Palate:
Medium-bodied and textured, the palate combines vibrant citrus fruit with notes of grilled nuts, stone fruit and gentle creaminess from lees ageing. The oak is integrated rather than dominant, adding shape and softness while allowing the wine’s mineral freshness to remain central.
Finish:
Clean and persistent, finishing with zesty citrus, delicate nuttiness and a refined mineral edge.
- Food Pairing : De Wetshof Estate Finesse Chardonnay 2025 pairs particularly well with roast chicken, grilled line fish or creamy seafood pasta, where the wine’s acidity and citrus freshness help balance richer textures. The subtle oak and nutty character also work beautifully alongside pork belly, mushroom risotto or lightly spiced dishes with buttery sauces. Its combination of freshness and texture makes it a versatile Chardonnay for both everyday dining and more refined food pairings.
