Christiena Chardonnay 2024
Produced under the Van Loveren umbrella at Zandvliet in the Robertson Valley, the Christiena range reflects a more premium, vineyard-focused expression of the region. Robertson’s defining limestone-rich soils and warm days, balanced by cool nights, are particularly well suited to Chardonnay - encouraging both ripeness and natural acidity.
Fruit for Christiena Chardonnay is typically harvested in the cooler hours to preserve freshness, then matured in oak to build texture and complexity. The approach leans toward a New World generosity, but with enough restraint to keep the wine structured and food friendly. The result is a Chardonnay that sits comfortably between richness and clarity, showcasing both site and cellar influence.
Colour:
Bright gold with a subtle green edge, suggesting both ripeness and freshness.
Nose:
Ripe peach, melon and citrus lead, followed by hints of toasted oak, hazelnut and a light buttery note.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, with a rounded, creamy texture balanced by citrus-driven acidity. Stone fruit and tropical notes sit alongside gentle oak spice, giving depth without heaviness.
Finish:
Lingering and smooth, with a soft nutty note and a fresh citrus lift on the tail.
- Food Pairing : Christiena Chardonnay 2024’s balance of richness and acidity makes it a natural partner for creamy dishes like chicken Alfredo or mushroom risotto, where the wine’s texture mirrors the dish while its acidity cuts through the richness. It also works well with grilled line fish or prawns in lemon butter, and with roast chicken or pork where the subtle oak complements savoury flavours. For something local, try it with Cape Malay-style fish - the gentle spice and citrus notes align comfortably without overpowering the dish.
