Cape of Good Hope Serruria Chardonnay 2024
Part of the Cape of Good Hope range produced under the wider Anthonij Rupert Estate umbrella, this Serruria Chardonnay 2024 draws on fruit from the cool, elevated Elandskloof valley in the Western Cape. Steep slopes and decomposed sandstone soils give the grapes bright natural acidity and focused fruit expression, while gentle oak influence and lees contact add texture without dominating the wine’s purity. The result is a Chardonnay that reflects both its distinctive terroir and a balanced winemaking approach - poised and expressive rather than overtly rich.
Colour: Pale straw with a subtle green sheen, clear and inviting.
Nose: Aromas of nectarine and citrus blossom mingle with limestone minerality and a light hint of vanilla biscuit and orange peel, suggesting both freshness and subtle oak nuance.
Palate: The palate is energetic and vivacious with crisp lime, orange zest and white peach flavours. Vibrant acidity lends lift while a creamy nuttiness and gentle oak integration give texture without heaviness.
Finish: Dry and harmonious, with lingering citrus and a gentle creamy note that trails gracefully on the finish.
- Food Pairing : This bright and textured Chardonnay pairs beautifully with dishes that reflect its refreshing acidity and layered palate. Think grilled hake or line fish with lemon butter - the citrus-driven flavour profile echoes the wine’s lime and orange notes. Creamy seafood linguine or a rich seafood risotto will balance the wine’s soft yeasty texture and oak nuance, while roast chicken with herbs and a squeeze of lemon will marry with its lifted acidity and subtle oak complexity.
- Drink before: Best enjoyed now through about 2029 (medium term) – cool-climate Chardonnay like this develops nuance with short-term bottle age.
