Allée Bleue Chardonnay 2024
Allée Bleue Estate lies in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, where the confluence of the Dwars- and Berg rivers has shaped mineral-rich, stony soils that lend texture and freshness to its wines. Chardonnay thrives here, benefitting from warm days and cool nights that preserve natural acidity and aromatic clarity - especially in single-vineyard expressions. The 2024 Allée Bleue Chardonnay was matured in concrete eggs, a winemaking choice that accentuates fruit purity and subtle lees complexity without the overt influence of new oak. This reflects the estate’s thoughtful approach: honouring varietal character and terroir while maintaining a balanced, approachable style.
Colour:
Pale straw with faint green highlights, bright and clear in the glass.
Nose:
Inviting aromas of juicy peach and citrus blossom are layered with hints of pineapple and a faint minerally note that speaks to the stony Franschhoek soils.
Palate:
The palate is gently textured with citrus fruit - lemon and grapefruit - and orchard notes of ripe pear. There’s a soft, nutty nougat nuance and a touch of saline minerality, all framed by balanced acidity that keeps the wine lively rather than heavy.
Finish:
Smooth and poised, the finish offers lingering citrus and subtle spice, with a clean, refreshing close.
- Food Pairing : Allée Bleue Chardonnay 2024’s crisp acidity and subtle minerality make it a versatile match on South African tables. It pairs beautifully with grilled yellowtail or pan-seared hake, where the citrus-driven fruit complements the delicate fish. Creamy lemon-herb chicken or a goat’s cheese tart with fresh salad brings out the wine’s orchard fruit and soft nutty notes. For something lighter, steamed mussels with garlic, white wine and parsley echo the Chardonnay’s saline nuances while keeping the palate bright.
