Glengoyne Distillery sits at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill, just north of Glasgow, uniquely positioned on the boundary between the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands. While the distillery itself lies in the Highlands, its warehouses sit across the road in the Lowlands - a geographical curiosity that adds to the distillery’s long-standing character.
Founded in 1833, Glengoyne has built a reputation for its deliberately slow approach to whisky-making. The distillery is known for using some of the slowest distillation processes in Scotland, allowing the spirit to develop a softer, more refined character. Another defining feature is that Glengoyne dries its barley using warm air rather than peat smoke, resulting in a whisky that is completely unpeated. The spirit is then matured primarily in sherry-seasoned oak casks, which contribute gentle sweetness and layered complexity to the whisky.
Colour:
Bright golden amber with warm honey tones.
Nose:
Fresh and inviting with aromas of green apple, toffee and malted barley. Gentle notes of vanilla, citrus peel and soft oak spice develop with time in the glass.
Palate:
Light to medium-bodied with a smooth, rounded texture. Flavours of apple, pear and honey combine with caramel and subtle nuttiness from the sherry casks. The whisky shows a soft malt sweetness balanced by delicate spice.
Finish:
Clean and gently warming, with lingering notes of sweet malt, soft oak and a touch of almond.
