The base spirit matures for eight years - initially in ex-bourbon casks to build core richness - before a finishing period in specially sized Oloroso sherry octave casks, which are much smaller than standard sherry butts. This increases the surface-area contact with wood and accelerates extraction of rich, fruity and spiced character. Darkness does not shy away from intensity or dark fruit depth - it champions a rich, concentrated profile with vibrant sherried expression that appeals to lovers of classic cask influence.
