Mont Rochelle Sauvignon Blanc 2026
Mont Rochelle Mountain Vineyards is situated in the Franschhoek Valley, surrounded by mountain slopes and vineyards that benefit from the region's Mediterranean climate. Cooling breezes help moderate temperatures and preserve freshness as the grapes ripen, while the area's varied soils contribute to the character of the wines. Under winemaker Michael Langenhoven, the estate takes a hands-on approach to winemaking, aiming to express the fruit and freshness of each variety while adding complexity where it enhances the wine. The Mont Rochelle Sauvignon Blanc 2026 combines Sauvignon Blanc with a small portion of Sémillon. Sauvignon Blanc brings the fresh citrus and tropical-fruit character, while Sémillon adds roundness through the middle of the palate. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by four months on fine lees to build texture and complexity without relying on oak. The result is a fresh, aromatic white with more palate weight than a straightforward, light-bodied Sauvignon Blanc.
Colour: Pale straw yellow with a bright, clear appearance.
Nose: Fresh tropical fruit aromas lead, with notes of passionfruit and ripe guava complemented by citrus and delicate green-fruit nuances.
Palate: Lively and refreshing, with tropical fruit and citrus flavours supported by crisp acidity. The Sémillon adds a rounded texture through the middle of the palate, while four months on fine lees contributes a fuller mouthfeel. A subtle mineral character adds definition, keeping the wine fresh rather than heavy.
Finish: Clean and refreshing, with lingering citrus, tropical fruit and a gentle mineral note.
- Food Pairing : Mont Rochelle Sauvignon Blanc 2026 pairs naturally with grilled line fish, garlic prawns, fresh goat's cheese salad, sushi or a Thai green curry. Its bright acidity complements seafood and cuts through richer sauces, while the tropical fruit flavours work well with fresh herbs, lime and gentle chilli heat. For an easy summer lunch, serve it with a chicken and avocado salad or lightly grilled fish with lemon and herbs.
