Boplaas Family Vineyards is a multi-generational producer in Calitzdorp, a region better known for wines and craft whisky than for gin. With the launch of Boplaas 8 Citrus Gin, distiller Danie Nel brings innovation to the estate’s spirits range, marrying traditional gin craft with South Africa’s exuberant citrus diversity. Distilled in small batches, this gin showcases a distinctive botanical lineup built around eight different citrus fruits - a bright, bold expression of local produce and artisan distillation that feels both fun and remarkably balanced.
Appearance: Clear and crystalline in the glass, typical of well-made London-style gin.
Nose: Fresh and lively with a dominant floral juniper lift followed by vibrant citrus - orange, lemon and grapefruit - setting a bright aromatic tone.
Palate: Bold citrus zest character drives the palate, with juicy tangerine and lime sweetness balanced by a gentle earthiness from blood orange. The spicy juniper framework keeps it firmly in classic gin territory while the citrus blend adds depth and energy.
Finish: Long, clean and citrus-tinged - lemon and orange peel linger, making every sip inviting.
