Produced by Amrut Distilleries, Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky played a major role in introducing Indian whisky to the international premium spirits conversation. Founded in 1948 in Bengaluru, the distillery combines traditional whisky-making methods with India’s unique climate and locally grown barley to create a style that is distinctly its own.
Unlike cooler whisky regions such as Scotland, Bengaluru’s warm climate dramatically accelerates maturation, intensifying flavour development and oak integration in a relatively short period. The whisky is produced using Indian barley grown near the foothills of the Himalayas and matured in a combination of new American oak and ex-bourbon barrels. Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration, Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky delivers a bold, layered style that balances richness, spice and freshness with impressive clarity.
Colour:
Deep golden amber with bright copper highlights.
Nose:
Warm aromas of burnt honeycomb, toffee and vanilla lead the way, followed by liquorice, malted barley, citrus peel and gentle oak spice. There are subtle layers of tropical fruit and soft smoke beneath the sweetness.
Palate:
Full-bodied and expressive, showing flavours of molasses, barley sweetness, toasted oak and caramelised sugar. Notes of apricot, citrus, spice and dark honey add complexity, while the texture remains silky and rounded despite the whisky’s intensity.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering oak spice, cream toffee, dried fruit and a gently dry, savoury edge.

Try it alongside slow-braised lamb curry, smoked beef brisket or sticky pork ribs, where the whisky’s spice and oak richness complement caramelised and smoky elements beautifully. Mature hard cheeses such as aged cheddar or gouda also work well, balancing the whisky’s sweetness and savoury depth. For dessert, dark chocolate tart or pecan pie brings out the toffee, honey and spice notes in the spirit without overwhelming its structure.
