Hope Distillery, based in Salt River, Cape Town, was founded in 2014 by Lucy Beard and Leigh Lisk and was among the first licensed small-batch craft distilleries in the city. Originally known for its gin, the distillery later expanded into other spirits including agave-based expressions under the Esperanza range.
Hope Esperanza Reposado 500ml is crafted from organic Blue Weber agave and distilled in small batches before being rested in Hungarian oak barrels. This short maturation - around three months - gives the spirit a reposado style, softening the agave’s natural character while introducing gentle oak sweetness and spice.
Because it is produced in South Africa rather than Mexico, the spirit cannot legally be labelled tequila, but it follows similar production principles: agave fermentation, careful distillation and controlled oak ageing to create a balanced, expressive spirit.

Light golden straw from its time in Hungarian oak barrels.
Nose:
Inviting aromas of butterscotch, soft vanilla and floral agave, with a hint of warm spice.
Palate:
Smooth and rounded with flavours of caramel, gentle oak and sweet roasted agave. Subtle spice adds complexity while maintaining an easy-drinking texture.
Finish:
Warm and mellow with lingering vanilla and light spice.
