De Vry Distillery, based in Stellenbosch, produces small-batch craft spirits that reflect both classic distilling traditions and a distinctly South African identity. The name “De Vry” - meaning “the free” in old Dutch - reflects the distillery’s philosophy of independence and creativity in spirit production.
The De Vry Rooinek Dry Gin draws its playful name from the colloquial South African term “rooinek”, historically used to refer to British settlers. The gin itself takes inspiration from classic London Dry gin styles, built around juniper with carefully balanced botanicals that provide citrus brightness and subtle spice.
Distilled in small batches, the focus is on clarity of flavour and balance, creating a gin that works equally well in simple serves or classic cocktails.
