Anura Arpeggio 2022
Anura Wine Estate lies on the southern slopes of the Simonsberg mountains near Paarl, one of the Cape’s most established premium wine regions. The area benefits from well-drained granite soils, warm days and cooling afternoon breezes from False Bay, conditions that help grapes ripen fully while retaining freshness and structure.
The estate focuses on expressive, food-friendly wines that balance ripe fruit with careful oak maturation. Anura Arpeggio 2022 reflects a Rhône-style philosophy, blending Shiraz with Mourvèdre and a small portion of Viognier. Each cultivar is fermented separately in open-top tanks with regular punch-downs to build colour and flavour before the final blend is assembled prior to bottling.
The name “Arpeggio” comes from music - a sequence of individual notes that together form a chord - a fitting metaphor for a blend where each variety contributes its own character to the final harmony.
Colour:
Deep ruby with a youthful purple edge, clear and bright in the glass.
Nose:
Aromatic layers of ripe black cherry, mulberry and plum lead the nose, followed by hints of black pepper, warm spice and subtle floral lift from the Viognier component.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with generous dark fruit at the core. Notes of blackberry, blackcurrant and sweet cherry are supported by supple tannins and gentle French oak influence. Mourvèdre contributes savoury depth while Shiraz brings peppery spice and structure.
Finish:
Smooth and persistent, finishing with lingering dark fruit, soft spice and a hint of savoury complexity.
- Food Pairing : The structure and spice of Anura Arpeggio 2022 make it a natural match for robust, savoury dishes. It pairs particularly well with braaied lamb chops or beef rump, where the wine’s ripe fruit and tannins balance the smoky richness of grilled meat. A slow-cooked tomato-based beef stew or oxtail also works well, as the wine’s dark fruit complements the depth of the dish. For something slightly lighter, roasted Mediterranean vegetables or mushroom risotto echo the wine’s savoury, herbal nuances while allowing the fruit to shine.
