Loch Lomond 154th OSE- Argentinian Malbec Finish
Produced at Loch Lomond Distillery in Alexandria, on the southern edge of Loch Lomond in the Scottish Highlands, this limited-edition single malt celebrates the 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in 2026. Loch Lomond is known for its distinctive straight-neck stills, which give the distillery considerable flexibility in shaping spirit with a characteristic combination of orchard fruit, honey and soft smoke. The Loch Lomond The 154th Open Special Edition Argentinian Malbec Finish begins its maturation in American oak before spending six months in selected Argentinian Malbec casks. The wine-cask finish adds a darker layer of blackberry, raspberry and redcurrant alongside gentle spice, while retaining the fresh fruit and subtle smoky character of the underlying Highland single malt. It is bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and with natural colour.
Colour: Rich golden amber with a warm copper hue.
Nose: Dark berries and redcurrant lead, followed by fresh citrus zest, vanilla, honey and soft malt. A gentle smoky note sits quietly in the background.
Palate: Smooth and fruit-forward, with blackberry, raspberry and peach syrup alongside crisp apple and toffee sweetness. Gentle spice adds warmth, while the Malbec cask influence brings a darker berry character. A subtle thread of smoke provides contrast without dominating the fruit.
Finish: Medium in length, with lingering berry sweetness, soft oak spice and a light, warming smokiness.
- Food Pairing : This fruit-led Highland single malt works particularly well with dishes that echo its berry, vanilla and gentle spice notes. Try it with sticky toffee pudding, dark chocolate desserts, berry crumble, mature cheddar or a charcuterie board. The whisky's 46% ABV gives it enough weight for richer foods, while the fresh citrus and subtle smoke provide contrast to sweet, creamy and savoury flavours. It is equally suited to sipping neat or with a small splash of water to open up the fruit and spice.
