Almenkerk Lace Rose 2024

Almenkerk Wine Estate is a small family-owned estate in the cool-climate Elgin Valley, just beyond Cape Town. Founded by the Belgian-Dutch van Almenkerk family, the estate has developed a reputation for wines that combine European restraint with the clarity and fruit purity of South African vineyards.

The Elgin region’s elevated vineyards and cool maritime influence allow grapes to ripen slowly, preserving natural acidity and aromatic freshness - particularly valuable for rosé production. The 2024 Almenkerk Lace Rosé is crafted with minimal skin contact to achieve its pale salmon hue and fine texture. Extended lees contact adds subtle texture and depth, while a small portion fermented in older French oak contributes gentle complexity without noticeable oak character. The result is a dry, refined rosé designed more for the table than simple refreshment alone.

Delicate pale salmon pink with bright clarity in the glass.

Nose:
Aromatic notes of watermelon, strawberry, pomegranate and red currant lead the nose, followed by subtle floral lift and a faint savoury nuance.

Palate:
Dry and refreshingly crisp, with lively acidity carrying flavours of red berries and summer melon. The texture is slightly rounded from lees ageing, giving the wine more presence than a simple poolside rosé while still remaining vibrant and precise.

Finish:
Clean, persistent and lightly savoury, with lingering red fruit and citrus freshness.
