Cape of Good Hope Sneeuwkrans Pinot Noir 2021
Cape of Good Hope’s Sneeuwkrans Pinot Noir is grown in the cool, high-altitude vineyards of the Elandskloof valley, a dramatic site framed by steep slopes, gentle ocean influence and decomposed shale soils that give this delicate variety natural vibrancy and aromatic intensity. Hand-harvested early in the morning and carefully fermented, the grapes see around ten months’ maturation in French oak followed by extended bottle ageing, allowing structure and fruit to integrate gracefully. The estate’s focus is on clarity of site and varietal expression rather than heavy manipulation, resulting in a Pinot Noir that feels both expressive and refined, with a clear sense of place from this distinctive South African cool-climate site.
Colour: Medium ruby with bright clarity and a youthful hue in the glass.
Nose: Delicate raspberry and red cherry aromas come forward first, followed by subtle forest floor spice and gentle earthy nuance that add complexity without weight.
Palate: Light-to-medium bodied with juicy red fruit - cherry, plum and raspberry - balanced by fresh, lively acidity. There’s a hint of leaf-litter earthiness and gentle spice that gives dimension, and the French oak integration provides a silky texture and supportive structure.
Finish: Clean, fresh and impressively long, with lingering red fruit and an elegant earthen thread that keeps the wine focused and poised.
- Food Pairing : Cape of Good Hope Sneeuwkrans Pinot Noir 2021 pairs beautifully with dishes that reflect its bright acidity and refined flavours. Serve it with seared duck breast with a berry jus or roast pork loin with thyme and plum sauce to echo the wine’s cherry and plum notes. It’s also an excellent match for richer poultry dishes such as herb-roasted quail or mushroom risotto, where its earthy spice and silky texture balance the savoury richness on the plate.
