Jordan The Prospector Syrah 2023
Nestled in the Stellenbosch Kloof ward, Jordan Wine Estate has become one of South Africa's most respected family-owned wineries. The estate's vineyards benefit from cooling maritime influences from both False Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, helping grapes retain freshness while achieving full flavour development. The Prospector Syrah takes its name from the prospectors who once searched the Jordan hills for minerals, reflecting a spirit of exploration and discovery that remains central to the estate's philosophy. Carefully selected vineyard sites, thoughtful canopy management and sensitive oak maturation allow Jordan to produce a Syrah that balances fruit purity, savoury complexity and regional character. The result is a wine that combines New World fruit expression with the restraint and elegance often associated with classic Old World Syrah styles.
Colour: Deep ruby with youthful purple hues and impressive concentration in the glass.
Nose: Aromatic layers of blackberries, dark cherries and plum are complemented by cracked black pepper, violet and subtle hints of fynbos. Gentle oak influence adds notes of cedar, clove and a touch of smoked spice.
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied with a silky texture and finely structured tannins. Ripe black fruit flavours are joined by savoury spice, liquorice and a touch of earthiness. Fresh acidity provides lift and definition, while careful oak maturation contributes depth without dominating the fruit.
Finish: Long and savoury, with lingering dark berry fruit, pepper spice and a refined mineral note that carries through the finish.
- Food Pairing : Jordan The Prospector Syrah 2023 is a natural companion to slow-cooked lamb shank, Karoo lamb chops, venison pie, beef short ribs or a classic South African braai. The wine's peppery spice and savoury character complement grilled and roasted meats, while its firm yet polished tannins provide enough structure for richer dishes. It also works particularly well with rosemary, thyme and smoky flavours, making it a versatile choice for winter meals and outdoor entertaining alike.
