Glenwood Vineyards sits amid the historic, cool-breezed slopes of Franschhoek, where old-vine Syrah thrives with balanced ripeness and intensity. The top-tier Grand Duc range represents Glenwood’s commitment to precision in the vineyard and careful winemaking; only the best parcels and grapes are selected for this serious Syrah. For the 2023 vintage, around half of the whole bunches were fermented in small open fermenters, encouraging savoury complexity, before extended maturation for about 20 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels. The result is a wine that reflects both varietal purity and the layered nuances of Franschhoek terroir.
Colour: Deep dark ruby in the glass, hinting at concentrated fruit and structure.
Nose: A complex bouquet of ripe red berries opens first, framed by spice and light peppery notes, with subtle oak-derived hints of vanilla and cedar.
Palate: The palate is rich and velvety, with concentrated blackberry and plum flavours layered with gentle baking spice. Soft tannins lend a polished texture while balanced acidity keeps the wine poised.
Finish: Long and elegant, with lingering red fruit and spice - a finish that complements both hearty and refined food.
