Eagles’ Nest is a boutique Constantia estate planted on steep terraces that rise from roughly 100m to 400m above sea level, where cool ocean breezes and decomposed granite/ sandstone-derived soils give the wines clarity and tension. The farm’s altitude and exposure favour a cooler-ripening style of Shiraz, producing wines that show bright red-fruit and peppery, savoury notes rather than heavy jamminess.

Colour:
Bright ruby with medium depth and a clear rim, suggesting a wine that is ripe but not over-extracted.

Nose:
Perfumed red fruits - ripe cherry and bramble - sit alongside classic Shiraz pepper and a savory, almost fynbos-like herb note. Subtle smoky and mineral hints emerge with time in the glass.

Palate:
Medium-plus body with a juicy core of red and dark cherry, layered with black pepper spice and a touch of olive tapenade/savoury leaf. Tannins are present and gently grippy rather than aggressive, giving structure through the mid-palate, while acidity keeps the wine focused and fresh. Oak influence is supportive: toast and spice rather than overt sweetness.

Finish:
Medium to long, finishing on pepper, dried red fruit and a faint smokiness that lingers and invites another sip.

  • Food Pairing : Pairs well with rack of lamb, roasted root vegetables, and casseroles.
  • Drink before: Drink now through to 2030 for best expression of primary fruit and peppery detail. The wine has enough structure to benefit from a few years’ bottle age but is approachable in its youth.
  • Vintage: 2022
  • Manufacturer: Eagles Nest
