Sir David Graaff planted the first modern vineyards on De Grendel in the Durbanville Valley in 1999, nearly two centuries after the estate’s original vines were lost. Today, De Grendel has become synonymous with premium South African wines, shaped by the Graaff family’s deep respect for the land and their scientific, quality-driven approach to winemaking. The De Grendel Shiraz 2021 pours a vibrant purple hue with a deep violet rim. Aromas of black pepper, cloves, nutmeg, violets, and savoury undertones rise from the glass, complemented by delicate hints of glazed gammon and buchu. On the palate, warm spice layers unfold with a smooth, refined entry, leading into a savoury, gently meaty finish.
