All�e Bleue Black Series SV Syrah 2022

Allée Bleue Wine Estate is situated in the Franschhoek Valley of the Western Cape, an area known for its mountain-influenced vineyards and long winemaking heritage. The surrounding mountains and varied growing conditions create opportunities for producing expressive red wines, including Syrah with concentrated fruit and distinctive savoury spice. The estate combines its Cape heritage with a vineyard-focused approach to winemaking. Its Black Series showcases more individual, site-driven wines, with an emphasis on careful vineyard selection and considered cellar work. The Allée Bleue Black Series Single Vineyard Syrah 2022 is made from 100% Syrah grown at a single vineyard in Franschhoek. Winemaker Van Zyl du Toit uses a five-day cold soak before fermentation, followed by extended skin contact to develop colour, structure and aromatic complexity. After malolactic fermentation in barrel, the wine is matured for 16 months in French oak, with 80% new barrels. It is bottled unfiltered and unfined. This approach produces a concentrated yet elegant Syrah, combining ripe dark fruit with peppery spice, floral notes and the structure to reward careful cellaring.

Colour: Deep, opaque ruby red with a youthful purple hue.
Nose: Ripe plum and dark berry aromas lead, followed by white pepper, fragrant violets and cinnamon. A hint of liquorice adds a savoury layer, while the oak contributes subtle warmth and spice.
Palate: Full-bodied and richly textured, with concentrated plum and dark berry flavours supported by a soft, velvety mouthfeel. Fine tannins provide structure without dominating the fruit. White pepper and warm spice carry through from the nose, while French oak adds depth and subtle savoury complexity.
Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, peppery spice and liquorice, supported by polished tannins.
