Terra del Capo is the Italian-inspired range produced by L’Ormarins Private Cellar, part of Anthonij Rupert Wyne. The range was created from the late Anthonij Rupert’s passion for Italian grape varieties and their potential in South African vineyards. The Sangiovese is grown mainly on Rooderust Farm near Darling, where long, dry summers are moderated by cool Atlantic Ocean breezes. These conditions help preserve freshness while encouraging good fruit concentration and flavour development. The grapes are carefully sorted before fermentation in stainless-steel tanks. Gentle pump-overs are used to extract colour and flavour without creating harsh tannins. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in tank before being matured for approximately 12 months in a combination of French and American oak 500-litre barrels, with a restrained proportion of new oak.

Colour: Deep ruby red with dark garnet tones.
Nose: Expressive aromas of ripe cherry and dark berries are complemented by gentle spice and a subtle smoky note.
Palate: Juicy and well-balanced, with generous cherry fruit, dark berry depth and lively acidity. Fine, dry tannins provide structure without making the wine feel heavy, while carefully integrated oak adds nuance and texture.
Finish: Long and rewarding, with lingering cherry, spice and gentle savoury notes.

  • Food Pairing : Sangiovese’s natural acidity and supple tannins make it particularly food-friendly. Serve it with tomato-based pasta, mushroom gnocchi, wood-fired pizza, grilled lamb chops or roast chicken with herbs. Its cherry fruit and gentle savoury spice also work beautifully with antipasti, pancetta and dishes featuring earthy ingredients such as mushrooms, aubergine and black garlic.
  • Drink before: Cellaring potential: Enjoy now or cellar for approximately 3–5 years.
  • Vintage: 2024
  • Region: Western Cape
  • Medals Won: Platter's Wine Guide: 4 Stars.
  • Sugar Content: 1.5g/L
  • Alcohol Content: 14%
