Raka Wines lies at the foot of the Klein River Mountains in the cooler Overberg region, where maritime breezes and diverse soils favour savoury, balanced red varieties. Sangiovese is a varietal more often associated with Tuscany, but here Raka’s elevation and maritime influence help it achieve ripe fruit character with fresh acidity and nuanced spice. The 2022 Sangiovese was crafted from hand-picked fruit, with careful sorting and fermentation followed by malolactic conversion and maturation in a mix of French oak for depth and texture. The aim is an elegantly expressive, medium-bodied red that showcases both varietal purity and distinct South African terroir.
