Simonsig Estate, situated in Stellenbosch, has played an important role in the development of modern South African wine and was one of the early champions of Pinotage as a premium variety. The Redhill Pinotage is sourced from a distinctive vineyard planted on deep red Hutton soils on the slopes of Simonsberg, where excellent drainage and moderate vigour help produce concentrated fruit with structure and refinement.
The Malan family’s approach combines traditional vineyard stewardship with thoughtful modern winemaking. The 2022 vintage was carefully matured in French oak barrels to build texture and complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit. Rather than pushing for excessive extraction, the focus remains on balance, elegance and showcasing Pinotage with precision and ageing potential.

Deep ruby red with rich garnet hues.
Nose:
Layers of blackberry, black cherry and ripe plum lead the nose, followed by notes of cedar, sweet spice, dark chocolate and subtle roasted coffee bean.
Palate:
Full-bodied and structured, with firm but refined tannins supporting concentrated dark fruit flavours. The palate shows blackcurrant, mulberry and plum alongside savoury spice and gentle oak influence, balanced by fresh acidity that keeps the wine focused and composed.
Finish:
Long and dry, with lingering notes of dark berries, cocoa and toasted spice on the finish.
