Set on the south-western slopes of Paarl Mountain, Landskroon has more than 150 years of winemaking heritage behind it, with five generations of the De Villiers family shaping the estate and its wines. The warm Paarl climate and mountain-influenced vineyards provide a natural home for Pinotage, helping to develop the ripe berry fruit, generous texture and structure that define the estate’s style. The Landskroon Pinotage 2025 also marks an interesting new chapter in the estate’s story. In 2025, Van Loveren Family Vineyards acquired the Landskroon wine brand and operational cellar, bringing the historic Paarl property into one of South Africa’s best-known family-owned wine groups while continuing the Landskroon name and winemaking legacy. Made from 100% Pinotage, the wine takes a fruit-forward, approachable approach to South Africa’s signature red grape. Ripe plum and raspberry sit at the centre, supported by subtle vanilla and oak, smooth tannins and a satisfying medium-to-full-bodied palate. It is a style that respects the character of traditional Paarl Pinotage while remaining easy to enjoy today.
Colour: Deep ruby red with rich purple hues at the rim.
Nose: Ripe plum and raspberry provide the first impression, followed by softer notes of red berries, vanilla and gentle oak spice.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied, with generous plum and raspberry flavours carried by a smooth, rounded texture. The tannins are soft and well integrated, giving the wine structure without making it feel austere. Subtle oak adds vanilla and spice in the background, while the fruit remains the focus.
Finish: Smooth and lingering, with ripe plum, raspberry and a gentle vanilla-oak note on the finish.
- Food Pairing : The Landskroon Pinotage 2025 is an easy match for the South African table, with enough weight and soft tannin for grilled meats while its ripe fruit keeps the pairing approachable. Try it with a traditional braai, lamb chops, boerewors, grilled chicken with a smoky marinade, or a hearty beef potjie. It also works well with game birds, where the wine’s plum and raspberry character complements the richer meat without overwhelming it. The subtle oak and vanilla notes are particularly good alongside charred or roasted flavours.
