Bruce Jack Off The Charts Pinotage 2023
Bruce Jack Wines has built a reputation for producing accessible, expressive South African wines that focus on purity of fruit and regional character rather than heavy-handed winemaking. The Off The Charts range reflects that philosophy particularly well, showcasing contemporary styles designed to highlight freshness, balance and drinkability.
The 2023 Off The Charts Pinotage comes from selected vineyards in the Breedekloof region, where warm daytime conditions and cooler evenings help preserve fruit clarity while allowing full ripening. Bruce Jack’s approach with Pinotage leans toward finesse rather than extraction, using careful oak integration and gentle handling to soften the variety’s more rustic edges. The result is a wine that remains unmistakably Pinotage, but with a brighter, more polished personality.
Colour:
Bright ruby red with youthful purple edges.
Nose:
Ripe plum, black cherry and raspberry dominate upfront, followed by notes of mocha, sweet spice and a touch of smoky earthiness. There’s also a subtle floral lift that keeps the aromatics fresh and open.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, with soft tannins and generous dark berry fruit at the core. Flavours of mulberry, cherry compote and cocoa move across the palate, supported by gentle oak spice and balanced acidity. The texture is smooth and approachable, while the savoury undertone adds complexity without making the wine feel heavy.
Finish:
Rounded and persistent, with lingering notes of ripe berries, dark chocolate and soft spice.
- Food Pairing : Bruce Jack Off The Charts Pinotage 2023 is particularly well suited to relaxed, flavour-driven dishes. Flame-grilled burgers, sticky barbecue ribs or boerewors rolls all work naturally with the wine’s ripe fruit and smoky undertones, while lamb chops or peri-peri chicken benefit from its soft tannins and fresh acidity. The wine also pairs comfortably with tomato-based pasta dishes or wood-fired pizza, where its juicy berry character complements savoury flavours without overwhelming them.
