The wine reflects the longstanding winemaking tradition of Boplaas Family Vineyards, a six-generation family estate rooted in the Klein Karoo’s distinctive terroir. While Boplaas is famed internationally for fortified wines and brandies, its table wine range champions fruit-forward, approachable reds. The approachable Merlot combines grapes from carefully selected vineyards with hand-harvesting, open fermenter extraction and some maturation in seasoned French oak and oak alternatives. This results in a wine that feels rooted in its warm landscape but refined enough for everyday occasions.
Colour: Deep ruby with youthful crimson edges - vibrant and immediately inviting in the glass.
Nose: Bright aromas of ripe plum and red cherry lead, joined by hints of bramble jam and subtle spice with a touch of vanilla and fynbos influence in the background - typical of Boplaas’ Merlots.
Palate: Medium-bodied and plush, the palate offers juicy red and dark fruit flavours (plum, cherry, bramble) framed by smooth, soft tannins and balanced acidity. Gentle spice and vanilla nuances add depth without overwhelming the fruit.
