These conditions allow red varieties such as Malbec to ripen fully while retaining freshness and structure. The valley’s diverse soils and reliable sunshine help produce wines with ripe fruit character and approachable texture.
As one of South Africa’s oldest family-owned wine estates, Deetlefs combines generations of farming knowledge with practical, modern winemaking. The Stonecross range focuses on accessible wines with clear varietal identity and everyday drinkability. For the 2024 vintage, gentle extraction at cooler fermentation temperatures was used to preserve fruit purity and soften tannin structure.

Intense deep purple with a dark ruby rim.
Nose:
Blackberry, mulberry and ripe plum lead the aromatics, followed by violet, liquorice and a subtle savoury undertone.
Palate:
Medium-bodied with a soft, fruit-forward entry. Juicy dark berry flavours sit alongside velvety tannins and balanced acidity, giving the wine an easy, rounded texture without heaviness.
Finish:
Lingering and smooth, finishing with mulberry fruit and gentle spice.
