Journeys End Pastors Blend 2023

Journey's End Vineyards is situated on the Schapenberg slopes near Sir Lowry's Pass in Stellenbosch, where vineyards benefit from decomposed granite soils, cooling False Bay breezes and south-facing aspects. These maritime influences help slow ripening and preserve freshness, making the site particularly suited to structured Bordeaux-style red blends. Founded by the Gabb family in 1996, Journey's End has built a reputation for combining environmentally conscious farming with polished, modern winemaking. For the Pastor's Blend 2023, each parcel was hand-harvested, cold-soaked, fermented separately and matured in oak for 16 months before final blending. The wine honours local pastors from Sir Lowry's Pass who have worked with the estate in community upliftment initiatives. Colour: Deep ruby with a youthful garnet edge. Nose: Dark plum, black cherry and cassis lead the aromatics, followed by cedar, earth, sweet tobacco and subtle baking spice. Palate: Medium- to full-bodied with ripe black fruit at the core. Fine tannins provide structure, while Merlot softens the blend and Cabernet Franc adds lift and savoury detail. Fresh acidity keeps the palate balanced and composed. Finish: Long and dry, finishing with dark berries, tobacco leaf and a gentle oak spice note.
