Rietvallei John B Cabernet Sauvignon 2024
Rietvallei Wine Estate is a historic, family-owned farm in the Robertson Wine Valley, established in 1864 and now run by the sixth generation of the Burger family. The region's warm, dry climate and lime-rich red Karoo soils provide favourable conditions for growing Cabernet Sauvignon with ripe fruit and a generous, approachable character. The Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards used for the John B range were planted in 1998 on a north-west-facing slope, where the soil contains a notably high concentration of river stones. These well-drained soils and the region's abundant sunshine help the grapes reach full ripeness while developing the concentrated berry flavours associated with the variety. During winemaking, the grapes are allowed to ferment naturally with wild yeast. After fermentation and extended skin contact, a portion of the wine matures for 12 months in older 300-litre French oak barrels, while the remainder is matured in tanks with French oak staves. This approach introduces gentle oak spice and texture without overpowering the fruit. Rietvallei John B Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 is an accessible South African red that combines ripe berry flavours, soft tannins and subtle oak influence, making it a versatile choice for everyday enjoyment.
Colour: Deep ruby red with youthful purple highlights.
Nose: Attractive aromas of ripe red and black berries lead, with hints of dark cherry and subtle oak spice adding depth.
Palate: Smooth and fruit-forward, with juicy berry flavours supported by soft, approachable tannins. Gentle oak spice adds a savoury layer, while balanced acidity keeps the wine fresh and easy to enjoy. Its moderate structure makes it versatile alongside a range of everyday meals.
Finish: Pleasantly lingering, with ripe berry fruit, a light touch of oak spice and a smooth, rounded finish.
- Food Pairing : The soft tannins and juicy berry fruit of Rietvallei John B Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 make it particularly easy to pair with grilled steak, lamb chops, burgers, pizza and pasta with a rich tomato or meat sauce. Its gentle oak spice works well with charred and roasted flavours, while the wine's moderate body means it won't overpower lighter red-meat or poultry dishes.
