Meerlust Estate lies just outside Stellenbosch in South Africa’s Western Cape, where vineyards benefit from the cooling influence of nearby False Bay. These maritime breezes moderate the warm Stellenbosch climate, helping Cabernet Sauvignon ripen slowly and retain natural acidity while developing layered flavour.
Owned by the Myburgh family since 1756, Meerlust is one of South Africa’s most historic wine estates. The vineyards are planted on decomposed granite and clay-rich soils that help regulate water and encourage deep vine rooting, producing fruit with concentration and structure.
Winemaking at Meerlust reflects a classical approach influenced by traditional Bordeaux methods. Grapes are carefully selected and fermented with gentle extraction to preserve varietal character. The wine is matured in French oak barrels, allowing texture and complexity to develop without overshadowing the fruit. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon that expresses both the heritage of the estate and the distinctive character of Stellenbosch.

Nose:
Classic Cabernet aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry and ripe plum lead the bouquet. Secondary notes of cedar, graphite and tobacco leaf add complexity, with subtle hints of dried herbs and spice.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with firm yet refined tannins. Dark berry and cassis flavours dominate, supported by notes of mocha, savoury herbs and well-integrated oak. The acidity keeps the wine focused and balanced, giving it both structure and freshness.
Finish:
Long and composed, finishing with lingering blackcurrant, cedar and gentle spice.
