Lomond Candelabra Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Cabernet Sauvignon
Description
Lomond Wine Estate sits in the fertile valley of the Uilenkraal River on the Cape Agulhas plain near Gansbaai, where cool Atlantic and Indian Ocean influences slow ripening and lend freshness to its vineyards. The Candelabra Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is a single-vineyard expression named after the endemic Brunsvigia orientalis, commonly called the red candelabra flower that flourishes among the vines. Grapes are grown on decomposed gravel soils in exceptionally low-yielding blocks, each hand-picked and fermented with precision before 12 months in oak to draw out concentration and layered flavour. The result is a Cabernet that reflects both the intensity of its site and Lomond’s meticulous winemaking ethos.
Colour:
Deep ruby with youthful garnet hues.
Nose:
A classic Cabernet profile unfolds with ripe blueberry and cassis fruit, alongside elegant cedar, sweet paprikas and subtle spice nuances that hint at depth.
Palate:
Medium-full with pure varietal fruit at the core - dark plum and blackberry - supported by fine, well-integrated tannins. Cedar spice and a whisper of black pepper lend structure while balancing the fruit’s natural vibrancy.
Finish:
The finish is poised and lingering, with soft savoury notes and a fresh line of acidity that keeps the wine lively despite age.

Lomond Candelabra Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
- Food Pairing : Lomond Candelabra Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 pairs wonderfully with dishes that echo its structured Cabernet profile and savoury spice. A medium-rare ribeye steak with rosemary butter highlights the wine’s blueberry and cedar notes, while grilled lamb medallions with mint jus accentuate both fruit and herbaceous character. For a local twist, a rich bobotie with a side of crushed sweet potato brings out the softer tannins and dark fruit, and a platter of mature cheddar, aged Gouda and artisanal charcuterie makes for a convivial pairing that lets the wine’s elegance shine across every bite.
- Drink before: Cellaring potential: 2018–2028+. Approachable now with mature structure from age, yet still rewarding with careful cellaring.
